I oppose the Marbletown Green project, which plans for the construction of a high-density, mixed-zoned development on land presently home to the Stone Ridge Orchard.
The proposed development, involving anywhere from 300 to 450 housing units, would harm our community in profound ways. It would create problems for our infrastructure, including (1) traffic congestion; (2) noise, light, and air pollution; (3) an untold increase in the demand for water and waste disposal; and (4) extra strain on our emergency services and educational system. It would jeopardize Marbletown's rural character, which gives the town its scenic beauty and other unique qualities. It would bring to an end the orchard, itself, which is as much a viable agricultural operation as it is a treasured part of our town's heritage. Finally, it would facilitate and encourage other unwanted, large development projects in our community in the future.
I want to preserve Marbletown and we urge that all necessary steps be taken to prevent the Marbletown Green project from happening in our town.
