No 'Green' is Good News

To the Editor:
The news that "Marbletown Green" has abandoned its project of putting a 450-unit high density housing development where the 200 year-old Stone Ridge Orchard now stands is great news! It's also in keeping with what Marbletown residents have - what's distinctive about Ulster, and what needs to be supported, are its family farms and the efforts of creative farmers like Mike Biltonen (the manager of Stone Ridge Orchard).
If Ulster .goes the way of heavily developed counties further to the south of us, how in the world is that progress? Agricultural tourism and preserving healthy farming is the route for economic viability for Ulster. Thinking for the future means keeping our farms, and not marching in lockstep to all the tired clichés about the inevitability of development.
